The WinSCP program is a free SFTP, SCP and FTP client for Windows. You can download the program here.

Configuring the program

After installation and startup, a splash screen appears. On the left is a list of saved configured connections. There are no connections yet in the illustration. We first need to create a connection to the termite-a0 server.

  • 1. In the Host: field, fill in kraken
  • 2. Select Save….

~~SP~~

  • 3. In the Space name: field, type any session name under which it will be saved
  • 4. Select OK to start logging into the server.

  • If you are logging in for the first time, a warning window will appear. WinSCP does not “know” the remote server and asks if the server is trusted. Answer Yes.

  • 5. The server login starts. If you did not fill in a Username and Password on the initial screen, you will now be prompted to enter them.

~~SP~~

  • 6. If the login is successful, the main program window will appear.

The folders and files on your computer are shown on the left, and the server on the right.

  • 7. You can open several connections at once. Each connection has its own tab.
  • 8. PuTTY can be called directly from the program. You only need to configure it.
  • 9. The configuration can be accessed from the menu using the Options → Preferences option. Select the Integration → Applications tab and select the path to the PuTTY program. You can also check the Remember password and pass it to PuTTY (SSH) option, then PuTTY will automatically log you in when it starts.
